Girl Geek Tea Party #28 - Geeky crafty decorations!
Sunday, 2 December 2012 from 14:00 to 16:00 (GMT)
Manchester, United Kingdom
MadLab, Edge Street, Manchester
Sunday 2nd December, 2-4pm
Thinking about sprucing up your house for the holidays? Forget the usual decorations - why not try some geeky alternatives? Whether it's hanging on a Christmas tree, or just decorating your house to make it look pretty during the cold winter months, surely a Mario 1up mushroom beats a boring snowman every time. We'll have a selection of different crafty items to be made, from all kinds of materials, and full instructions will be provided. Ticket cost (£6) will include the cost of all your materials and you'll get to take home everything you make.
Among other things, we'll be making LED-fitted hanging ornaments, much like our LED badges from previous workshops, and we'll also have some Hama beads, for anyone who enjoyed our Hama bead workshop earlier in the year, to make some hanging festive sprites. If anyone remembers our origami workshops, we'll have dodecahedron lanterns with LED candles. We'll also be making things from recycled materials, all with a great techy-sciencey-nerdy theme.
Of course, there'll be our usual tea, coffee and cake, so if you feel the need to bring any thematically appropriate baked goods along, that is as always much appreciated.
EDIT: The wonderful people from the Sustainability team at IKEA have kindly donated some of their surplus packaging, old electrical items and fabric scraps to help us make things! They'll also be bringing along some LED candles for our lanterns, and some extra Hama beads. Everyone smile nicely and thank them!
Tickets: £6 (including materials, so you can take your finished items home!)
